Shimmering silver and sky-blue flock of birds brooch
Shimmering silver and sky-blue flock of birds brooch
This unique brooch is made from silver and engraved sky-blue mirrored perspex.
Each little starling bird is made by hand and meticulously riveted through the sky-blue mirrored perspex which is engraved with an intricate cloud pattern. The silver the birds are made from is oxidised (blackened) to represent the dark feathered plumage of the starling.
The frame and back plate of the brooch are made from sterling silver. This has also been oxidised and polished to a gleaming gunmetal tone. A 9ct gold pin wire forms the double brooch fastening to the rear.
This brooch was inspired by the swooping aerobatics of the starlings that flock near my workshop here in East Yorkshire. The outer wall of the brooch is formed by wrapping silver around one of my favourite pebbles.
The brooch measures 4.8 × 5.5 × 0.5 cm
care instructions:
Use a soft cloth to remove fingerprints and a very fine sable brush to remove dust from the engraved perspex surface. Do not use any silver cleaning products on the oxidised areas as this will remove the patination.
